Engl - Mikis Theodorakis "Zorba il greco" at the Ntfi, 17 july 2009, Naples
A choral ballet in two acts and twenty-two scenes created by Lorca Massine in 1988 for the Arena of Verona. Its first interpreter was the great Russian ballet dancer Vladimir Vassiliev. Inspired by the famous novel, Zorba the Greek by Nikos Kazantzakis, the ballet was well received by the already inspired Maurice Bejart to create the important choreography of Thalassa and Dionysus and the memory of the film version of the book (1965) was still vivid in the popular imagination. Zorba il greco narrates the events of a friendship between an English writer (Basil) who has inherited a modest house on a Greek island and the Greek Zorba, following the mournful destiny of their respective loves. The ballet is accompanied by the music of Mikis Theodorakis, which rcalls popular Greek traditions. In particular, it features the celebrated final moment of Sirtaki.
