"Of all festivals, Giffoni is the most necessary one". Francois Truffaut writes this after visiting the festival in 1982. Film productions with schools, theatre, music, cultural events, book publishing: the review goes beyond the borders of cinema. It's like this since 1971, when Claudio Gubitosi proposes and develops teenage movies, raising them up from an old marginal level to a very high quality "genre". Two intuitions were fundamental and are still irreplaceable pillars of the GFF "concept": - a jury composed by only teenagers - setting it in his small country of origin. During the years the GFF has become a synonymous of quality but, above all else, is an efficient "cultural entreprise" that employs tens of young people full time, and that hosts international celebrities such as Robert De Niro, Oliver Stone, Meryl Streep, Roman Polanski... 2009 edition will be "strong" starting from its theme: taboos. Homosexuality, racial meltinpots, sex. All this "in a GFF way" in respect of teenagers and their families.
